Students learn about the built environment through the Recess program.

Since 2016, Rice Design Alliance has partnered with Rice Architecture’s Recess program, an initiative that is designed to share the talent and energy of the students at Rice Architecture with schools and educational organizations throughout Houston.

This K-12 program taking place at the Rice campus uses educational materials and techniques developed by Rice Architecture students to provide hands-on introductory workshops on architecture and design that teach students about the built environment. Recess workshops are engaging and introduce creative thought processes through tours, presentations, and collaborative design projects.

Recess has also established a multi-year partnership with the STEM Chapter at the South Union CDC and a variety of education-based organizations in Houston, advancing the importance of the sciences in the design process.
