Linda L. Sylvan
Linda Sylvan, RDA Executive Director since 1988, works directly with the president to oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization. Prior to her appointment as executive director, Sylvan was managing editor of Cite for five years. RDA is a founding member of the Association of Architecture Organizations, and Linda is on the board of directors and serves as Secretary. She holds a B.A. from Rice University.
Assistant Director, Programs
Angie Chen joined RDA in September 2016. She has been in the design and construction industry for more than 17 years, first as an electrical engineer, then as a project manager. Before joining RDA, she was an owner’s representative for nonprofit capital construction projects such as the MATCH, the Christus Midtown Clinic, and the Children Assessment Center. Angie is eager to put her project management skills to use to continue and expand the wonderful programs RDA has to offer.
Assistant Director, Membership
Courtney Tardy joined RDA in 2014. A native Houstonian, Courtney has a B.A. in history from the University of the South (Sewanee) and an M.A. in Architectural History from the University of Virginia. Before joining RDA, she oversaw the neighborhood preservation programs at Preservation Houston, where she was involved with the creation of six local historic districts and more than 50 historic landmarks in Houston. At RDA, she oversees membership and the gala, drawing on years of experience in the nonprofit arena. She was also Director of Development for the Rice School of Architecture from 2005-2007.
Raj Mankad has been Editor of Cite magazine since 2008. He has a B.A. from Northwestern University and a Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Houston. Before joining RDA, he served for four years as Managing Editor of Feminist Economics, an academic journal based at Rice University.
Financial and Events Coordinator
Cathy Bauer joined RDA in February 2005 as a part-time employee. She handles the finances and, four years ago, took on an additional title as Auction Coordinator. During the months of August through December, she is very busy keeping up with the auction meetings and donations. In her free time, she works with interior designers and often travels to assist with installations. She was born and raised in Houston and has recently moved back into the house she grew up in, located in Meyerland.
Raquel has been at RDA since July 2005 as the administrative coordinator and is also responsible for advertising in Cite. She loves interacting with Rice students and RDA members at events and lectures. You will see her selling tickets, setting up, and taking care of everyday needs. She attended the University of Dallas, receiving a B.A. She lives in southwest Houston with her husband, Chris, and her cat, Gus.
