A charrette is a gathering of people for an intense period of brainstorming and design. Faced with a challenge or goal, the participants pool their talents to produce plans and drawings. The Rice Design Alliance sponsors an annual charrette competition, bringing together gifted designers, architects, and planners from the Houston area. RDA partners with other organizations to select important sites or issues. A previous RDA-sponsored charrette challenged participants to design a pedestrian bridge across Memorial Park. The winning entry is now being built.
