Honoring Judge Ed Emmett

In 2018, we honored the true meaning of PUBLIC. Of public service, of public space, of the right we all have to the public realm and the collective responsibility each of us carry to take care of it. No other community comes together to protect it like Houston does – and has done – in the year after Harvey. For these reasons, we were proud to honor the leadership of Harris County Judge Ed Emmett with Rice Design Alliance’s Award for Design Excellence. Judge Emmett’s contributions to shaping and protecting the urban landscape of Houston and our region through advocacy in design only reinforce the notion of how each and every one of us are keepers of our city – whether we are architects, engineers, developers, designers, or public officials – we are all participating citizens.

We all shape Houston through the smallest of our actions. On Saturday, November 17, we honored Judge Emmett as we highlighted the importance of our shared urban landscape and those, who like him, continue to undertake the gargantuan task of maintaining and improving it for all citizens alike.
