On Sunday, May 15, this event takes you beyond RDA’s recent architecture tour of houses with edible gardens. Nourishment: An Afternoon at Finca Tres Robles invites you to an active urban farm in Houston’s East End for a tour, tasting, and talk with five local experts.
Nourishment takes place Sunday, May 15, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are available online.
Founded by two brothers in 2014, Finca Tres Robles is located near Navigation Boulevard. The 1.25-acre farm, as Nick Panzarella writes on OffCite, “make[s] use of unused space within the city to produce food, as opposed to consuming more wild lands outside of the city.” Guests will first experience a tour led by one of the farmers, then will sit down at a “long table” to taste dishes of the farm’s organic produce prepared specially by Chef Monica Pope of Sparrow Bar + Cookshop, with cheese and bread from Houston Dairymaids, wine pairings from Terlato Wines, and beer from nearby 8th Wonder Brewery.
Inspired by Table for 1201, which was a program supported by RDA Spotlight Prize recipient 5468796 and presented in 2014 in Winnipeg, Canada, Nourishment combines the particular experience of place with the art of conversation. At the table will be five local experts — in sustainability, urban farming, landscape design, architecture, and Houston’s culinary scene:
Andrew Albers, professor, The Rice School of Architecture and architect, The Office of James Burnett
Karen Lantz, architect, Lantz Full Circle
Katharine Shilcutt, writer and editor, Houstonia
Scott Snodgrass, founder, Edible Earth Resources
Becca Verm, urban farmer, Sown & Grown
This is a special event open only to 50 RDA members and guests. Purchase tickets online now! Tickets are $100. Limited tickets for active rdAGENTS are $75.

On October 22, Underwriters of RDA’s 2008 gala were invited to a party at the recently opened downtown Houston Pavilions. Guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and a performance by jazz musician Al Campbell three stories up in the open air Pavilion. The group also enjoyed tours of the House of Blues.
After a brief welcome and thank you by Gala Chairs, Larry and Charlotte Whaley, the skies opened up, and the rain poured down. The unexpected weather did not dampen the festivities and the party continued indoors, where wine and food continued to be served.
